Abuja: A Wuse Magistrate Court in Abuja has remanded a 27-year-old man, Chidera Njoku, at a correctional centre for allegedly threatening his mother's life. Njoku, who resides in Kabusa Village, Abuja, faces a six-count charge including threat to life, assault, theft, extortion, mischief, and criminal intimidation. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, the case was brought to light when the defendant's mother, Mrs. Ngozi Njoku, filed a report at the Kabusa Police Station on August 21. The Prosecutor, C. C. Okafor, stated that Njoku stole several items from his mother and acted in a manner that endangered her life as well as his sister's.

The stolen items reportedly included a cell phone valued at N140,000, a 10kg gas cylinder, five liters of oil, and six bags of charcoal. The prosecutor further revealed that Njoku violently assaulted his sister when confronted about the theft, using a motor engine belt to inflict serious injuries.

Additionally, it was reported that Njoku threatened to kill his mother unless she provided him with N200,000. Magistrate Ekpenyong Inyang has ordered Njoku's remand at a correctional centre and adjourned the case to October 6.
