Katsina: The Federal Government has announced the disbursement of N2.086 billion through the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) to students of higher institutions across the North-West region. This was revealed by Alhaji Mukhtar Lawal-Tsagem, Director of the National Orientation Agency, Katsina State Directorate, during a one-day sensitisation programme in Katsina, highlighting the achievements of President Bola Tinubu.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, the funds have been allocated to approximately 20,919 students in the North-West States. The exercise, focused on milestones in the region, was organised by the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation. Lawal-Tsagem also noted the Federal Government's impact in the region, particularly in agriculture and security. In Kebbi, wheat farmers from 12 local government areas received support through the NAGAP programme, while ginger farmers in Kaduna State were granted N1.6 billion. Additionally, the N2 billion Yawuri Water Scheme stands as a key infrastructural project in the area.

The NELFUND programme aims to provide interest-free loans to students in higher institutions, helping them cover school fees and study-related expenses. Lawal-Tsagem emphasized the ministry's role in informing the public about government initiatives and policies, encouraging support and appreciation from the community.

In a related discussion, Adamu Muhammed, a lecturer at the Department of Public Administration, Hassan Usman Katsina Polytechnic, urged the region to continue supporting the current administration. He stressed the importance of collective effort and responsible citizenship, noting the need for local governments and representatives to effectively utilize funds for the benefit of the populace.
