Rabat - The Moroccan Parliamentary Representation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe has been taking part, since Monday, September 30, 2024, in the Fourth Part of the 2024 Ordinary Session of the Assembly (PACE) in Strasbourg. Building on the significant experience and exemplary relationship that has been strengthened since the granting of the Partner for Democracy status in 2011, the Moroccan Parliament is determined to consolidate further its collaboration with this pan-European parliamentary assembly, which brings together 612 members, 30 observers, and 30 partners around the democratic ideal, the Lower House said in a press release. This Session will focus on the situation in the Middle East, in particular the escalating violence and humanitarian crisis in Gaza, as well as issues of migration and refugees, the same source added. Alongside the plenary sittings, members of the Moroccan delegation are actively involved in the proceedings of the various PACE committees, including the C ommittee on Political Affairs and Democracy; the Committee on Legal Affairs and Human Rights; the Committee on Migration, Refugees, and Displaced Persons; the Committee on Social Affairs, Health, and Sustainable Development; the Committee on Culture, Science, Education, and Media; and the Committee on Equality and Non-Discrimination. The Moroccan delegation's participation has intensified as a result of the new prerogatives it has been granted, including the right to attend meetings of the Standing Committee, to submit motions for recommendations and resolutions, to table amendments co-signed by a member of the Assembly, to request topical debates and to be appointed to open such debates, to submit written statements, and to be appointed rapporteur for specific fact-finding missions.
