Rabat - A recent report by Morocco's statistics arm (HCP, Haut-Commissariat au Plan) has revealed that three regions, namely Casablanca-Settat, Rabat-Salé-Kenitra, and Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima, together generated more than half of the country's wealth in 2022. These regions accounted for 57.9% of Morocco's national wealth at current prices, underscoring their pivotal role in the nation's economy. Casablanca-Settat led the pack, contributing 31.4% of the national wealth, cementing its status as the economic heart of the country. Rabat-Salé-Kenitra followed with a 16.1% contribution, while the northern region of Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima added 10.4%. Beyond these top three, other regions also made significant contributions. Marrakech-Safi generated 8.3% of the national gross domestic product (GDP), Fez-Meknes contributed 7.9%, and Souss-Massa added 6.6%. The Beni Mellal-Khenifra region contributed 6.1%, and the Oriental region added 5.1%. In addition to wealth generation, the report highlighted notable g rowth trends. The Souss-Massa region recorded the highest GDP growth rate, with a 7.5% increase from 2021 to 2022. Rabat-Salé-Kenitra and Marrakech-Safi also showed strong growth, with increases of 5.2% and 4.6%, respectively. Overall, Morocco's national economy grew by 1.5% in volume in 2022, reaching a GDP of MAD 1.296 trillion. At current prices, the GDP rose by 4.2%, totaling MAD 1.330 trillion.
