Owerri: Women Environmental Programme (WEP) has successfully conducted a training session for various women's rights and grassroots organizations, focusing on advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The event, which took place on Thursday, was aimed at enhancing the capacities of these organizations to formulate effective policies and improve their online presence. According to News Agency of Nigeria, Mr. John Baaki, Deputy Executive Director of WEP, emphasized that the workshop is part of the Women Power 2030 project being implemented in Nigeria and Sierra Leone. Baaki highlighted the workshop's goal to bolster the capabilities of women and feminist civil society networks in combating inequalities and promoting gender-equal sustainable development. He further elaborated that the project aspires to ensure the SDGs are pursued in a sustainable, equitable, and gender-inclusive manner, with the expectation that participants will become more effective, secure additional funding, and make significant contributions toward ending gender inequality. Mr. Ikenna Anumnu, Executive Director of Goodwash Foundation for Health and Environmental Protection, praised WEP, the European Union, and Women Power 2030 for organizing the workshop. He noted that the training would enhance the organizational policies and visibility of women's rights and civil society organizations, thereby increasing their capacity to contribute effectively to SDG advocacy efforts. The News Agency of Nigeria reports that participants received training on topics such as 'Building a strong brand identity for organizations,' 'Leveraging digital media for advocacy and awareness,' and 'Developing relevant policies and processes for organizations.' Participants were drawn from various regions, including Imo, Rivers, Bayelsa, Enugu, Delta, Abia, Ebonyi, Edo, Anambra, and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Facilitator Mr. Ken Ajio advised attendees to formulate communication strategies and plans for every project and initiative, recommending the adoption of effective communication policies, utilization of multiple channels, and establishment of feedback mechanisms for both internal and external communications. Mrs. Nkiruka Obisike, a participant and Head of the Legal Unit at Sisters With A Goal Initiative (SWAG), commended the organizers and expressed hope that such training would continue. She shared that she gained valuable insights into formulating organizational policies and managing an organization.
