Daura: The Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) has approved an allocation of over N2.5 billion for the Federal University of Transportation Daura (FUTD) located in Katsina State. The announcement was made by the university's Vice Chancellor, Prof. Umar Adam-Katsayal, during an interview in Daura.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the approved funds will be distributed across various sectors of the university. A significant portion, amounting to N1.3 billion, will focus on enhancing physical infrastructure and upgrading existing programs. Additionally, around N240 million is designated for the training and development of academic staff.
The Vice Chancellor further detailed the allocation, stating that N150 million will be invested in ICT development, with N185 million directed towards enhancing the library facilities. Conference attendance initiatives will receive N170 million. Research activities are set to benefit from a N100 million allocation, while N180 million is earmarked for project maintenance. Entrepreneurship centres will receive N85.5 million, and career centres and units are allocated N100 million. For journal publication and manuscript development, N25 million each has been set aside.
In an effort to address housing concerns for university staff, Prof. Adam-Katsayal revealed the introduction of a cooperative society aimed at facilitating home ownership. Lands surrounding the university will be made available to investors for housing development, ensuring that staff members can own homes and avoid housing challenges post-retirement.
