Teen girl arrested at Akoonde village for alleged concealment of birth

A 19-year-old Namibian female was arrested at Akoonde village in the Omuthiya area after she gave birth to a baby boy and allegedly buried him next to her sleeping room.

According to the police daily incident report on Thursday, the incident happened between Monday and Wednesday and the suspect was a grade nine pupil.

“The suspect’s parents who were aware that she was eight to nine months pregnant became suspicious and surfaced she gave birth to a male baby and buried the baby next to her room,” the report indicated.

The deceased's body was retrieved and the suspect is currently admitted at Omuthiya State Hospital for further treatment under police custody and guard.

In another incident, 39-year-old Selisius Amadhila on Wednesday reportedly hanged himself after his girlfriend left for work at Otjimbele Agriculture project at Oshito town in the Omusati region.

The incident occurred at about 10H21.

It is alleged that when the deceased's girlfriend realised that he did not turn up at work and did not answer his phone, she decided to go back home and upon arrival found his lifeless body, hanging from the roof of their sleeping room with a rope around his neck, the report said.

His next of kin have been informed, and the body was transported to Okahao Police State Mortuary for autopsy. No suicide note was left behind.
