Swakopmund man denied bail for cutting ex-girlfriend’s tongue

A 23-year-old man was denied bail in the Swakopmund Magistrate’s Court on charges of attempted murder after he allegedly cut off half of his ex-girlfriend’s tongue earlier this week.

Erongo Region Crime Investigations Coordinator Deputy Commissioner Erastus Iikuyu in a crime report said the suspect, Nikanor Katoli, reportedly cut the victim’s tongue with scissors at a local bar in the Single Quarters residential area of Swakopmund.

The 24-year-old victim was taken to the Swakopmund State Hospital, from where she was transferred to the Katutura State Hospital in Windhoek.

The case was postponed to 12 October 2023 for further investigations.

In an unrelated matter, the Erongo police are on the hunt for three unidentified suspects who reportedly robbed a bar in Omaruru on Tuesday at gunpoint, where they also assaulted the 69-year-old bartender and a 30-year-old customer.

It is alleged that the suspects got away with a pistol and a cell phone from the bartender valued at N.dollars 20 000. They further took N.dollars 8 000 from two jackpot machines which they broke into.

The suspects reportedly fired a shot into the air before fleeing on foot.

No arrests have been made yet and police investigations continue.
