Abuja: Dr Abubakar Musa, a former National Coordinator of the Nigeria Young Farmers Network, has been appointed as the Global President of the All Africa Youth Forum (AAYF).
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Musa, who also serves as the President of the Coalition of Farmers Association of Nigeria and is a member of the World Farmers Organisation, will lead the AAYF for a four-year term.
The announcement of Musa's appointment was made in a statement by the AAYF's Secretary General, Mr. Samuel Kerkula, which was distributed to news outlets in Abuja. The appointment was confirmed during the AAYF global conference held in Liberia. Kerkula quoted Musa as expressing his gratitude and commitment to the role, emphasizing a renewed focus on youth-driven development and collective action.
Musa outlined his vision for the AAYF, which will prioritize youth empowerment, agriculture and food systems, climate action, and gender equality. He stressed the importance of involving Africa's youth as active participants in the continent's development. Musa vowed to empower young people in sectors such as agribusiness and climate innovation, ensuring inclusive governance and leaving no one behind.
Under his leadership, Musa plans to establish robust youth cooperatives and leadership networks across African regions. He aims to promote youth involvement in agriculture, advance climate adaptation, create green jobs, and drive sustainable development initiatives while reinforcing gender equality and inclusion throughout all AAYF programs.
Musa called upon African governments, development partners, and private sector leaders to invest in enhancing youth capacity, support innovation, and collaborate across borders. He highlighted the importance of achieving the goals outlined in the African Union's Agenda 2063, emphasizing his commitment to fulfilling the responsibilities entrusted to him and achieving global objectives through collective effort.
The All Africa Youth Forum is dedicated to empowering the next generation of African leaders and fostering progress across various sectors.
