Boudib (Ouarzazate) - Moroccan athlete Rachid El Morabity won his tenth Marathon des Sables title, at the end of the sixth stage of the 38th edition, held Saturday over 21.1 km between Bou Makhlouf and Boudib. With this victory, Rachid El Morabity equals the record held by Lahcen Ahansal for years. Rachid El Morabity won the last stage in 1h 22:5, two seconds ahead of Aziz Yachou (1h 22:7), Mohamed El Morabity (1h 23:5) and Hamid Yachou (1h 32:30). Thanks to this stage victory, Rachid El Morabity took the lead in the general ranking (8:42:19), ahead of his younger brother Mohamed (8:42:44), Aziz Yachou (8:44:37) and Hamid Yachou (10:56:41). The 38th Marathon des Sables was held on April 12-22, under the high patronage of HM King Mohammed VI. Participants covered 252 km spread over 6 stages, the longest timed distance ever offered in the history of the Marathon. Nearly 900 athletes from 58 countries participated at this edition.
