Moroccan Para-Athletes Determined to Deliver Strong Performance, Says Sports Minister

Paris - Moroccan athletes taking part in the 2024 Paralympic Games, which opened in Paris on Wednesday, are determined to deliver strong performances, Minister of National Education, Preschool and Sports Chakib Benmoussa said on Thursday. "The Moroccan paralympic delegation, across all sporting disciplines, is entering these games with confidence and high spirits, in a climate of symbiosis and enthusiasm, with the hope of achieving better results," Benmoussa told MAP. The 38 Moroccan para-athletes' qualification for these Games is the fruit of sustained efforts on the part of the sports federations and technical departments, not to mention the sport department's support in bringing together the ideal conditions and promoting a proper preparation of the athletes, added Benmoussa. The minister, who visited the Paralympic Village in Paris to inquire about the condition of the Moroccan team, recalled the outstanding results achieved by Morocco at the Tokyo Olympic Games, securing eleven medals, and called on the para-athletes to hoist high the national flag at the Paris Games. Benmoussa said that the Moroccan Paralympic delegation had been welcomed in good conditions and that organisers provided all facilities and structures necessary for training. The Kingdom has won a total of 38 medals at the Paralympic Games since 1988 in Seoul, including 16 gold, 11 silver and 11 bronze, with Para athletics securing a majority of 34 medals.
