More than 500,000 tonnes of agricultural products expected in the Northern region

A delegation of authorities, led by the governor of the Northern region, Issouf Ouédraogo, visited, on Friday, October 11, 2024, two agricultural production sites in the commune of Ouahigouya. An opportunity for the regional authority to encourage all stakeholders for the results obtained. The agro-pastoral and fishing offensive is an initiative launched by the Head of State, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, to achieve food self-sufficiency, a concern of all Burkinabè. It is in this context that a strong delegation, composed of the regional director, the provincial director of agriculture, the High Commissioner of the province of Yatenga and the president of the special delegation (PDS) of the commune of Ouahigouya, led by the governor of the North region, went to immerse itself in the realities of the 2023-2025 agro-pastoral and fisheries offensive on production sites, this October 11, in the village of Tougzagué. Located 2 km from the city center, in sector 13 of Ouahigouya, the rice lowland and the corn, sorghum and millet production site cover a total area of ??100 hectares. On this site, 70 ha are developed for rice production, 15 ha for corn, 6 ha for sorghum, 4 ha for millet and 5 ha for other crops such as peanuts, cowpeas and okra. Soon the harvest, and with the technical support of the State and its partners, the joy can be seen on the faces of the producers and the authorities after the visit of October 11, 2024. According to forecasts, food self-sufficiency through agricultural production will be a reality in Burkina Faso. The governor of the Northern region, Issouf Ouédraogo appreciated the outing. "Our trip aims to see the effectiveness of the agro-pastoral and fishing offensive in the region. We are really satisfied with the results, which are promising. We thank all stakeholders for these results and we reassure them of the support of the highest authorities in the country, who have made a commitment to achieve food sovereignty through this initiative. The Head of State, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, is focusing on agriculture to achieve food self-sufficiency, and I am convinced that with what we have seen, this will be a reality in Burkina Faso." The regional director in charge of agriculture and animal and fisheries resources in the North, Alexis Constantin Toé, said he was very satisfied with the progress of the agricultural campaign in the region. According to him, as part of the agro-pastoral and fisheries offensive, producers have benefited from support from the State and its partners. Many inputs have been given to producers, and each municipality has received a tractor. More than 4,000 hectares of land have been ploughed free of charge for the benefit of producers in the region. Mr. Toé indicated that in view of the good rainfall up to this date, the agricultural campaign promises good results. "We are confident that the expected results will be achieved. In total, 553,000 tonnes of agricultural products are expected for this campaign in the region." Tiadiani Savadogo, general secretary of the Yaolm-Néré rice production cooperative in Pella, expressed his joy. For him, thanks to the support of the authorities, the harvest looks good. On the rice lowland site of sector 13, Mr. Savadogo hopes to harvest about 280 tons of PADI rice for the campaign. "We are very happy to see Mr. Governor again on this site. I thank the authorities for the initiative. At present, we can reassure you that the agricultural campaign has gone well. In a few weeks, it will be the harvests and we hope to achieve the targeted objectives." It was in a good atmosphere, with producers, partners and technical services, that the visit ended.
