Rabat - Marrakech's judicial police, acting on intelligence provided by the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST), arrested an 18-year-old suspected supporter of the terrorist organization Daesh on Monday. The suspect is alleged to have been planning large-scale terrorist attacks targeting sensitive sites within the Kingdom, according to a statement from the Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations (BCIJ). The operation led to the seizure of electronic equipment, a plastic bottle containing a suspicious liquid, and a quantity of chemical powder, which are now undergoing analysis by the relevant authorities. Preliminary investigation findings reveal that the young suspect had adopted Daesh's extremist ideology and pledged allegiance to its self-proclaimed emir. He had reportedly acquired expertise in manufacturing explosive devices as part of his plan to execute a subversive project. Further inquiries indicate that the suspect had also established contacts with Daesh intermediaries to faci litate his joining one of the organization's branches in the Sahel region. The coordinated effort to arrest the suspect and thwart his terrorist plans underscores the effective collaboration between the DGST and foreign intelligence services. The suspect is currently in custody under the judicial investigation led by the BCIJ, supervised by the public prosecutor responsible for terrorism cases. The investigation aims to uncover the full extent of the extremist activities he is accused of and to identify any potential connections with other terrorist organizations.
