Kenya plans to build its first nuclear power plant on its coast by 2034, with an initial reactor operational by 2030, capable of producing up to 1,000 MW. This ambition, confirmed at a summit in Nairobi, has drawn criticism from environmental groups, who highlight the risks to the marine ecosystem. The country already generates 90% of its electricity from renewable sources. As of today, only South Africa has an operational nuclear power plant in Africa, while Egypt and Nigeria plan to develop nuclear energy. Source: Africa News Agency
