Ghanaian Reggae and Dancehall sensation Stonebwoy has defended his claim to the 2019 Ghana Music Awards Artiste of the Year title, which was never officially announced. In an interview on 'The Portfolio' podcast with MC Portfolio, Stonebwoy reiterated his belief that he rightfully earned the title, expressing his confidence in his achievements. "I have boldly spoken about the three times, and I will continue to speak up until anyone doubts to speak otherwise. "I have accepted that it is three times already, and I'm gladly rallying it around, giving a lot of credit and placing importance on the Ghana Music Awards. So, as for that one, I'm confident about it. I'm not dragging it with them," he said. He questioned the necessity for further evidence, stating, "How deep can it get? How deep can it get when Kwame Sefa Kayi, DJ Black, and myself are in the know? It is not about me proving it now. It is about those who want to prove otherwise." Stonebwoy invited anyone who doubted his claim to come forward and assert their own claims if they felt differently, saying, "If anyone thinks otherwise, they should also boldly come out and claim that they are the winners as well." What happened in 2019? In 2019, the highly-anticipated title was withheld by the VGMAs organizers following a scuffle between Stonebwoy and rival Dancehall artiste Shatta Wale. Stonebwoy had been announced as Dancehall Artiste of the Year when Shatta Wale stormed the stage with his entourage, leading to a brawl between the two groups, during which Stonebwoy brandished a gun. Both artists were subsequently banned from the awards scheme, and the category was left unannounced. Fast forward to the 2024 VGMAs, Stonebwoy, who was named the Telecel Ghana Music Awards Artiste of the Year, used the opportunity to claim that he should have been declared the winner of the 2019 Artiste of the Year category. He urged Charterhouse to formally acknowledge him as the 2019 winner, expressing his confidence in deserving the title and reiterating his request for recognition. Source: Ghana Web
