HM King Mohammed VI, the Architect of Modern Morocco (AfDB President)

Abidjan - Morocco is going through a spectacular transformation, under the leadership of HM King Mohammed VI, standing out among the most stable and advanced nations in Africa, said African Development Bank (AfDB) Group president Akinwumi Adesina. 'For a quarter of a century, HM King Mohammed VI has been the architect of modern Morocco,' noted the head of the pan-African bank in a statement to MAP on the occasion of the Throne Day. The ambition and vision of His Majesty the King have produced tangible results in terms of transformation, with Morocco doubling its gross domestic product in 25 years and building world-class infrastructure, stressed Adesina. 'Flagship projects such as the Noor Ouarzazate solar complex - one of the largest in the world - and the Tanger-Med port, a gigantic maritime infrastructure, symbolize this dynamism,' he pointed out, adding that the high-speed rail line, unique in Africa, also illustrates Morocco's growing influence, visibility, and power on the regional stage. In this re spect, he cited projects to extend the national road and motorway network, build numerous ports and airports, open up rural areas and ensure a widespread supply of drinking water. 'Progress in state-of-the-art infrastructure is complemented by an active approach to human capital development,' he maintained, recalling in this respect the projects to modernize the education system and vocational training as well as the active support for the most innovative entrepreneurs in both traditional and cutting-edge sectors. 'These successes are the result of innovative sectoral strategies, effective structural reforms, a well-established productive diversification, prudent macroeconomic policies, and a constantly improving business environment,' he highlighted.
