Kaduna: Mrs. Oghogho Musa, President of the Defence and Police Officers' Wives Association (DEPOWA), emphasized the significance of the International Widows' Day celebration as a testament to the strength and resilience of widows, who courageously navigate numerous challenges. She shared these sentiments during an event in Kaduna that brought together 255 widows to mark the occasion.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, Mrs. Musa highlighted the efforts of DEPOWA to empower widows through various training initiatives. Many widows have shown interest in farming and are undergoing training in Abuja to acquire essential skills for profitable farming. The program aims to teach farm management, business skills, and best practices, enabling participants to successfully manage their own farms.

Additionally, the DEPOWA president explained that some widows were being trained in fashion and design, with the association providing financial support to help them establish their businesses. Mrs. Musa stressed the importance of mentorship, confidence building, and developing a positive mindset to overcome challenges.

The initiatives have already started making a positive impact, with widows expressing eagerness to learn and identifying areas where they need assistance. The support and empowerment provided by DEPOWA are intended to help widows break boundaries, build resilience, and create better futures for themselves and their families.

Highlights of the event included a medical outreach and presentations by Amanda George and Amara Ezedinru on topics such as financial planning and emotional wellbeing, aiming to address the specific needs and challenges faced by widows.
