Burkina : le poids du pain dans certaines boulangeries de Ouagadougou en deçà de la norme de 160 g (constat)

Teams from the Burkinabè Agency for Standardization and Metrology (ABNORM) have noted that the weight of the baguette sold by certain bakeries in Ouagadougou is significantly less than 160 g. 'Most of the bakeries we visited offer baguettes whose weight is completely below the required nominal weight, which is 160 g with a tolerance of 5%,' declared the director of meteorology at the ABNORM, Issa Sawadogo. The observation was made by teams from the Agency, accompanied by journalists, during an unannounced inspection mission on the night of August 16 to 17, 2024 in certain bakeries in the capital. According to the director of meteorology, this surprise visit follows recent complaints from the Burkinabe population about non-compliance with the weight of bread indicated by law. Taking the opportunity to salute the vigilance of consumers, Issa Sawadogo urged people to denounce bakeries selling bread whose mass is below the standard, by calling the toll-free number 53262727. The director of meteorology recall ed that non-compliance with legal requirements can result in monetary penalties of 500,000 to 500 million FCFA, or custodial sentences of one year to 5 years, or even both penalties at the same time. . Mr. Sawadogo further indicated that pressure will be maintained on bakeries so that the regulations are respected. 'In the days to come, other bakeries in the capital and the rest of Burkina will receive visits from our teams,' he concluded. As a reminder, according to the texts in force in Burkina Faso, the price of 160 g bread is set at 150 FCFA. Source: Burkina Information Agency
