Abuja: The Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) has reiterated its commitment to upholding ethical standards and integrity in public procurement. The BPP aims to promote transparency, accountability, and efficiency for national advancement and transformation, as stated by Dr. Adebowale Adedokun, the Director-General of BPP.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the statement was issued by Zira Nagga, Head of Public Relations at BPP, during a courtesy visit by a delegation from the Nigerian Navy Logistics College, Kano. Dr. Adedokun emphasized the importance of maintaining the highest ethical standards in procurement processes and expressed the readiness of BPP to work collaboratively with the Nigerian Navy. The collaboration aims to ensure that the defense sector is properly trained and certified in public procurement.
Dr. Adedokun highlighted that correct defense procurement can maximize opportunity cost, scale of preference, and professionalism. He noted that serious attention to defense procurement would greatly impact the nation's security, ensuring procured equipment and ammunition are of higher quality and well-managed. Trained procurement officers in the military would be better equipped to detect inferior equipment and negotiate for quality.
Furthermore, Dr. Adedokun proposed various training packages for the college and urged the management to engage with the Nigeria Procurement Certification Portal. This platform serves as a centralized digital space for the training, assessment, and certification of procurement professionals. He mentioned that the Villa project would be revisited in the long run, acknowledging the Navy's forefront role in compliance.
Rear Admiral Emmanuel Anakwe, Commandant of the Nigerian Navy Logistics College, Kano, pledged to collaborate with BPP on procurement training. He stated that this initiative would allow officers to become certified in public procurement and empower them to reach their full potential. Established in 2022, the Nigerian Logistics College focuses on training Nigerian Navy Logistics Personnel to enhance their knowledge and skills toward professionalism in military logistics.
Rear Admiral Anakwe remarked that the collaboration with BPP would bolster the Navy's efforts to build capacity for best procurement practices in the military. He emphasized the college's readiness to harmonize its training logistics with BPP to ensure the procurement cadre in the Navy is fully trained and certified.
