Balé: Disaster-affected households from the village of Hèrèdougou relocated

The governor of the Boucle du Mouhoun region, Pierre Bassinga, officially handed over to the local authorities of the Balé province the temporary rehousing site built by CONASUR for the benefit of disaster-stricken households in the village of Hèrèdougou, on Wednesday, September 25, 2024. The governor and his delegation were able to observe the effectiveness of the administrative return to school at the village primary school, which served as a reception site following the floods that occurred on August 21. The disaster-stricken households of Hèrèdougou have now been relocated to an official space set up and equipped by CONASUR after the emergency census of households by the services of the humanitarian action department. On the site chosen by the local community, about sixty traditional tents were built of wood, iron and covered with tarpaulins. Before the site was developed, the affected households found shelter in the school classrooms, the village church and in porches. The floods affected more than 70 households according to statistics from the Balé provincial humanitarian action directorate. From the first hours of the disaster, several missions of local and regional authorities and a government mission were at the bedside of the populations to show them the solidarity of the nation. To this end, the victims received food and non-food aid from CONASUR and the Red Cross according to local authorities. On Wednesday, the governor of the region officially handed over the rehousing site for the disaster-stricken households to the local authorities. The delegation met with the population of Hèrèdoudou. Several households were affected by the floods, according to the village chief Moussa Konaté. The chief praised the promptness of local and national authorities in taking care of the victims. He asked the authorities to accompany the parents of students in the affected households with supplies so that the children can return to school. According to the representative of the victims, Madi Niampa, the authorit ies' support has erased their sorrows, despite the difficult situation they have been experiencing for a month. Mr. Niampa said that the major concern remains, however, the start of the school year because several households have lost their animals and food that should have allowed them to pay for school supplies. He also asked to increase the number of tents because of the size of some households. Governor Bassinga promised to convey their grievances to the appropriate authorities. In addition, the authority invited them to live together in harmony and solidarity and to keep faith for a better tomorrow. Mr. Bassinga also instructed local authorities to watch over the site. The latter reaffirmed their full availability to be at the side of the victims. The governor took advantage of this visit to encourage the village teachers. He congratulated them on their good results in the primary school certificate exam. This visit by the governor allowed him to see the effectiveness of the administrative return. The regional authority took the opportunity to invite the population of Hèrèdougou to send their children to school. The staff appreciated this visit by the governor on the eve of the start of the school year. This visit by the governor marks the third outing by the regional authority to the village of Hèrèdougou in the space of a month. Previous visits made it possible to coordinate emergency relief in the face of rising waters on the Hèrèdougou bridge. Source: Burkina Information Agency
