AIDS: ASWHAN urges members to stay on medication

Mrs Assumpta Reginald, the National Coordinator of Association of Women Living with HIV/AIDS (ASWHAN),

has urged its members to continue to take their medication diligently.

Reginald made the call at a two-day Leadership Training for members in Abuja on Thursday.

She advised members to disregard faith-based suggestions that HIV/AIDS could be cured without drugs, emphasising “continue to take your drugs because it is a lifetime medication.

“Disregard any other suggestion or advice to stop drugs and expect miracles,” she cautioned.

The coordinator, who expressed joy over her leadership achievements in the past eight years, tasked state coordinators to drive excellent leadership.

She called on all to continue to improve their leadership qualities for better association and urged government at all levels to provide the required interventions for them to continue to stay alive.

Mrs Patience Ekeoba, the Programme Officer, UN Women, emphasised the imperatives of quality and competent leadership.

Ekeoba, who defined leadership as an opportunity that only a few could have, said that the quality of a leader would amount to quality outcome.

She said conscientious choice for leadership is critical in producing quality leadership with proven integrity and character.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the two-day training is designed to improve the leadership qualities of the coordinators to close leadership gaps.
