Rabat - Morocco is a beacon of innovation and creativity in Africa, the Kingdom's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Omar Hilale, said on Monday in Rabat. With an international artificial intelligence center 'AI Movement' at the cutting edge of research, the Kingdom is positioning itself as a beacon of innovation and creativity thanks to the various efforts deployed and the advances and research made in this field, said Hilale at the opening of the High-Level Forum on Artificial Intelligence, noting that this Center is not focused solely on the Moroccan vision but is open to all of Africa. On this occasion, Hilale recalled the consensual adoption of the first UN resolution on artificial intelligence, co-sponsored by Morocco and the United States. 'Morocco and the United States were the first countries in the annals of the United Nations to present a resolution on AI enabling a common vision on AI, encouraging the mobilization of resources, international cooperation and the funding o f research and innovation structures,' noted the Moroccan diplomat. He pointed out that 'this resolution aims to create a framework for discussion, exchange and cooperation between countries, so as not to leave AI in the hands of developed countries, and to enable Third World countries to benefit from this far-reaching advance.' Morocco's choice to negotiate the resolution on AI is explained by its modern diplomacy committed to science, innovation and research, noted Hilale, noting that Africa and South-South cooperation were at the heart of this resolution. Considering that AI has not had the place it deserves in Africa's development, Hilale noted that this forum is an opportunity to promote African capabilities and take stock of this global race towards AI.
