FIND Convenes African Union Ambassadors to Strengthen Diagnostic Capabilities

Geneva: FIND (www.FINDdx.org) hosted a meeting with Ambassadors from 26 African countries and the African Union at its offices in the Global Health Campus in Geneva. The meeting focused on FIND's work in African nations, future opportunities, and its role as a partner in diagnostics. According to African Press Organization, the foundation of an effective health response lies in diagnosis. Dr. Ifedayo Adetifa, CEO of FIND, emphasized the importance of collaboration with the African Union to ensure no one is left behind in health diagnostics. FIND aims to drive innovation and improve access to diagnostics in low- and middle-income countries. FIND's leadership shared its updated strategic vision as a lead-up to this year's Diagnostics Day event on 21 May, coinciding with the World Health Assembly. The meeting highlighted several key conclusions, including a commitment to enhance regional manufacturing of diagnostics and health technologies, increased cooperation between AU and FIND aligned with Africa CDC's di agnostic priorities, and support for FIND's role in expanding access to diagnostics for diseases like HIV, TB, malaria, mpox, and emerging outbreaks. Dr. Ayoade Alakija, FIND's Board Chair, stated that African leaders are addressing challenges in a world where vulnerable populations are at risk, particularly in Africa, which bears the greatest health burden. FIND is committed to supporting efforts to strengthen pandemic preparedness and ensure quality diagnostics are available universally. The Diagnostics Day event will take place at the Vieux Bois in Geneva, gathering global health leaders to discuss steps for ensuring quality and accessible diagnostics for everyone.
