In 2002, the President of Faso Blaise Compaoré sent his French counterpart, Jacques Chirac, four djembes filled with dollars to help him in his presidential campaign, said Robert Bourgui, pawn of France-Afrique, on France 24. According to Robert Bourgui, President Compaoré and Minister of State Salifou Diallo had found this trick to escape the strengthening of controls on financial flows. In the courtyard of the Elysée, the four djembes were transported by Salifou Diallo, Bourgui's son, Minister Dominique De Villepin and the president's private secretary to Jacques Chirac's office. In 2014, the disgraced Minister Salifou Diallo had already recounted this episode. The djembes are said to have contained three million dollars in small bills. Source: Burkina Information Agency
