Water Management: Morocco Has Rich Experience to Share with Other Countries (FAO DG)

Rabat - Morocco, under the leadership of HM King Mohammed VI, has rich experience in water management, Director-General of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), Qu Dongyu, said Thursday in Rabat, stressing that this experience can be shared with FAO members, especially African countries that face water shortages. In a statement to the press following his talks with Minister of Equipment and Water, Nizar Baraka, the FAO DG stressed the need to smartly exploit water resources, not only to deal with shortages, but also to develop rural areas and support farmers. He also highlighted the potential to improve water efficiency and reduce water consumption in urban areas, stressing that this task is not only the mission of the Water Ministry, but an absolute priority for national development. For his part, Baraka said that this meeting was an opportunity to highlight the Moroccan water management strategy in accordance with the High Instructions of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, in particular the integrat ed approach linking water, food and energy security. He also voiced the will to strengthen cooperation between the FAO and the Ministry of Equipment and Water to contribute to strengthening scientific research in order to better manage water resources in Morocco. Morocco’s Army Rescues 12 Sub-Saharan Would-Be Migrants off LaSyoune

Ra - A Royal Air Forces team reinforced by a diver from the Royal Navy, rescued, as part of a search and rescue mission, 12 sub-Saharan would-be migrants, including a minor, off the village of Tarouma (55 km from the city of LaSyoune). After locating the would-be migrants who were stuck in a cliff, the team of rescuers successfully recovered and evacuated the people in distress, the General Staff of the Royal Armed Forces said in a press release. The rescued people, who were planning to reach the Canary Islands, received the necessary care before being handed over to the Royal Gendarmerie for the usual administrative procedures, the same source added.
