A significant forest fire erupted on Wednesday evening in the Bourd forest, located in the Charchara area of the Aknoul district, Taza province. The blaze ravaged 30 hectares of forest cover, officials reported. According to Mourad EssaSfadi, the provincial director of the National Agency for Water and Forests (ANEF) in Taza, the fire primarily affected holm oak, Aleppo pine, and secondary grasses. "The affected species are crucial to the forest ecosystem," EssaSfadi told MAP. Emergency services quickly mobilized in response to the fire. Teams from the ANEF, Civil Protection, local authorities, the Royal Gendarmerie, Auxiliary Forces, and the Royal Armed Forces (FAR) were dispatched to the scene to combat the flames. "The intervention teams faced significant challenges, including rugged terrain, strong and shifting winds, high temperatures, and difficult access to the fire's core," EssaSfadi explained. These obstacles significantly prolonged firefighting efforts. Despite these challenges, the combined pro vincial intervention teams, supported by FAR ground units and two Canadair firefighting aircraft, continue their efforts to contain the blaze. Several residences in the fire's path were evacuated as a precautionary measure. "Evacuation efforts were carried out following the instructions from the on-site command center, supervised by the governor of Taza province," EssaSfadi noted. "The command center continues to monitor the situation closely and is implementing appropriate measures." Source: Agence Marocaine De Presse
