Man succumbs to stab wound at Otjiwarongo

A 22-year-old man died in the Otjiwarongo State Hospital on Sunday after he was allegedly stabbed in the chest by his neighbour.

The Namibian Police Force’s Head of Community Affairs in the Otjozondjupa Region, Inspector Maureen Mbeha said in a media statement the deceased has been identified as Jafet Haodom. His relatives have been informed of his death.

Mbeha said the alleged stabbing occurred between 03h00 and 04h00 in the Ombili informal area on Sunday.

It is alleged that the deceased had come from a shebeen and wanted to jump over the fence into their yard, but he however jumped into the neighbour’s yard, where the suspect was watching him.

“The suspect allegedly used a sharp object to stab Haodom in the left side of his chest,” Mbeha said.

Haodom sustained a deep stab wound and was taken to the Otjiwarongo State Hospital where he died around 06h10, said Mbeha.

The 30-year-old suspect, who is known to the police, fled and is yet to be arrested, she added.

Police investigations continue.
