CHAD – CONGO: the PCMT discusses with President SASSOU NGUESSO in Oyo

After participating in the work of the 21st ECCAS summit, the President of the Transitional Military Council, President of the Republic, General MAHAMAT IDRISS DEBY ITNO left Kinshasa this morning. On his way to N’Djamena, the Head of State made a stopover at Oyo in Congo-Brazzaville where he had a one-on-one with his counterpart, Mr. DENIS SASSOU NGUESSO , President of the Republic of Congo. The state of bilateral relations, the Libyan file and the transition process in Chad were at the center of the exchanges.

After his stay in Kinshasa for the President of the Transitional Military Council, General MAHAMAT IDRISS DEBY ITNO left the Congolese capital this morning. He was escorted to N’Djili airport by some Congolese officials and Chadian diplomatic staff.

On the way back, the Head of State stopped at Oyo in Congo where the presidential plane landed at Ollombo International Airport, which serves the city located in the Cuvette department at more than 400 km from the capital Brazzaville.

 It is the President of the Republic of Congo, Mr. DENIS SASSOU NGUESSO in person who welcomes his illustrious guest. After greetings from some Congolese personalities, the Head of State General MAHAMAT IDRISS DEBY ITNO and his counterpart withdrew for an interview.   A tete-a-tete, which is not the first, which allowed the two statesmen to discuss the future of bilateral and multilateral relations.

The cooperation between the two countries, which is based on solid and long-standing relations, supported by bilateral agreements, covering areas such as culture, science, technology and air transport signed in 1988. This strong and exemplary cooperation, the two leaders intend strengthen it further. 

The signing of the financial agreement between Congo and Chad, for the restructuring of Chad’s debt to Congo, on February 26, 2022 in Brazzaville, between the Congolese Minister of Finance and that of Chad, appears in the eyes of the President of the Council Military Transition, as an act of great importance for his country.

The two presidents welcomed the exemplary relations between their two countries. The Head of State verbally conveyed his thanks to his counterpart Denis SASSOU NGUESSO whose role is central in the African political environment, especially in his capacity as Chairman of the High Level Committee and of the Contact Group of the African Union on Libya, this country whose destabilization has weighed heavily on Chad and the Sahel. The latest developments in the political situation in Libya and the prospects for ending the crisis in this country were therefore discussed by the two Presidents.

The President of the Republic also shared with his host the latest developments in the political situation in Chad, with a focus on the Inclusive National Dialogue, scheduled to start on August 20, 2022 and its challenges. The Congolese Head of State Denis SASSOU NGUESSO praised the efforts of the Transitional Military Council while renewing his availability and that of his country, to support the process in line with the ambitions set by the transitional authorities under the leadership of PCMT, anxious to complete the process in style.

It was at the end of these exchanges that the PCMT was accompanied by his counterpart at the foot of his plane which headed for N’Djamena.
