To rationalize its resources, the Air Senegal company, run by the Senegalese state, will stop serving, from September 20 and September 22, the cities of New York, Milan, Barcelona, ??Marseille, Lyon, Libreville and Douala, deemed unprofitable. According to the Senegalese daily L'Observateur, the elimination of these destinations is a response to "the rationalization of resources, the insufficiency of the fleet and the lack of profitability of certain services." Ousmane Sonko's government on September 1st wiped out the company's debt of USD 9 million to Carlyle Avion Partners, an American company that leases aircraft, in order to avoid a pending lawsuit. A previous Air Senegal recovery plan had indicated the increase in destinations from 20 to 29 cities with the addition of Milan, Barcelona, ??Marseille and Lyon to be served daily.
