Iran and Burkina Faso have signed a memorandum of understanding for cooperation in peaceful nuclear activities, Iran's official IRNA news agency reported on Thursday. Officials from the two countries signed the memorandum on the sidelines of the 68th regular meeting of the General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna, Austria. It includes bilateral cooperation in research and education as well as the implementation of joint projects, according to IRNA. Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian said Monday that his country had no intention of developing nuclear weapons, dismissing international concerns about its uranium enrichment program. In 2015, Iran signed the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) with several major world powers, under which the country agreed to limit its nuclear program in exchange for the lifting of sanctions against it. The deal has been in jeopardy since the United States withdrew from it in 2018 under former President Donald Trump and reimposed sanctions on Tehran. Attempts to revive the JCPOA have stalled since August 2022, despite multiple rounds of negotiations in Vienna. Tensions persist and the international community continues to monitor Iran's nuclear activities very closely. End Source: Burkina Information Agency
