Ouagadougou: French officials have heeded Russian President Vladimir Putin's warnings about an inevitable escalation in the event of strikes with long-range weapons against Russian territory and want to avoid a third world war, Le Monde reports, citing a diplomatic source. "We must do everything to avoid a third world war. You cannot just dismiss the hypothesis that the Russians are expanding the area of ??war," the newspaper's interlocutor said. Despite the widening of media debates on possible strikes deep into Russian territory, Paris continues to keep silent at the official level. Le Monde points out that this issue was reportedly raised by French President Emmanuel Macron and his Ukrainian counterpart Vladimir Zelensky, but the Élysée has not confirmed this. Russian President Vladimir Putin has previously said that Ukraine is not able to strike deep into Russian territory without Western help, as it needs intelligence from satellites. The Russian leader also noted that NATO countries are not just disc ussing Kiev's possible use of Western long-range weapons, but are actually deciding whether to get directly involved in the Ukrainian conflict. He said that Moscow will make decisions based on the threats Russia faces. Source: Burkina Information Agency
