Buildings Renovation in Marrakech Medina Draws Great Satisfaction from Al Haouz Quake Beneficiaries

Marrakech - Renovation operation of buildings damaged by the Al Haouz earthquake in the medina of Marrakech, has drawn great satisfaction from the beneficiaries, thanks to speedy construction execution, tireless mobilization of stakeholders and assistance and rigorous monitoring by local authorities. Since the launch of the large-scale reconstruction program, in accordance with the High Instructions of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, this antique site, beating heart of Marrakech, has been living to the rhythm of a sustained dynamic of renovating houses and Foundouks (business establishments), totally or partially demolished, and of various buildings affected by the earthquake of September 8, 2023. A massive effort has been deployed in the medina, one of the more-affected areas in the Marrakech prefecture, by local authorities who are tirelessly working to bring this project to a successful conclusion. The post-earthquake reconstruction of this urban fabric is well underway, with exemplary synergy between va rious parties involved, and a collective effort to ensure the success of the project, which essentially depends on the effective contribution and commitment of all concerned (local authorities, beneficiaries, institutional players, etc.). This is borne out by the sense of great relief and deep satisfaction expressed by owners of houses and premises in Fondouks that are being renovated and improved as part of the post-earthquake reconstruction operation. These beneficiaries expressed to MAP their deep gratitude to His Majesty King Mohammed VI, who continuously surrounded victims of the Al Haouz earthquake with His high solicitude and benevolence. They also praised the constant efforts made by authorities, in line with the High Royal Instructions, and praised their ongoing commitment and mobilization to provide necessary support and meticulous monitoring of the planned interventions. Residents, including women, craftsmen and owners of premises in the Fondouk Benchbaba, which rehabilitation work has been com pleted, highlighted the quick responsiveness of local authorities and institutional players involved in overcoming all difficulties and ensuring the smooth running of the reconstruction operation, notably through regular site visits and facilitation of procedures. Beneficiaries of this reconstruction operation also expressed their great satisfaction with the pace and state of progress of the work, some of which has been fully completed, while others are at a very advanced stage.
