4th International Conference on Public Health in Africa Scheduled in Morocco Postponed at Request of Africa CDC

Rabat - The Ministry of Health and Social Protection on Friday announced the postponement of the 4th International Conference on Public Health in Africa, initially scheduled for November 2024 in Morocco, following an official request addressed to the Moroccan government by Director General of the African Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) Jean Kaseya. As part of his official visit to Morocco on Friday, where he held talks with Minister of Health and Social Protection Khalid Ait Taleb, Kaseya stressed that the African continent is facing serious health challenges as a result of Mpox epidemic cases in several African countries, including Morocco, which reported its first case of the virus, a Ministry press release said. According to the same source, Kaseya noted that controlling Mpox requires intensive efforts and international cooperation, given the current health situation. In this regard, he submitted an official request to the Moroccan government to postpone the 4th International Con ference on Public Health in Africa to the following year, in order to prioritize the fight against this health crisis, the press release added. While understanding this request, the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, in full support of the decision to postpone the conference, reiterates the Kingdom's commitment, under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, to continue bolstering cooperation in the health field with African countries and international partners, with the aim of supporting efforts to tackle health crises and achieve health sovereignty on the African continent. A new schedule for the conference will be announced at a later date, in coordination with the African Union (AU) and the African Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
